The Wanderlusters Sailing Club, Inc., a nonprofit organization formed in 1968. The club is incorporated in Maryland and exists for the advancement of the sport of sailing through education, recreation, and adventure. A general meeting of the membership is held in the spring for elections and other necessary business. In between general meetings, management and operation of the club is vested in an executive committee, which consists of nine annually elected officers.
The club owns two sailboats, a 27-foot Catalina sloop and a Hunter 306, each with an inboard diesel auxiliary engine. Both vessels have fiberglass hulls, are sloop-rigged, have sleeping accommodations, and are equipped for cruising. The boats are berthed in Annapolis with convenient access to the Chesapeake Bay.
Each season, the club provides sailing instruction to new members, including basic sailing theory, boating safety, and navigation as well as on-the-water lessons under sail and engine power. Members with sufficient experience may take a captain exam as administered by the club Sailing Master. Upon passing, the member will be certified as a club captain and entitled to privately reserve and sail the club vessels in accordance with the club's operating procedures. Generally, new members qualify first in the Catalina 270 and build up additional experience before qualifying in the larger Hunter 306. To afford club members with additional sailing and socializing opportunities, the club organizes group cruises during the season at nominal prices. These cruises include both day sails and weekend overnight cruises to numerous destinations along the Chesapeake Bay and adjoining waterways. Click here to join.
